Botox is a common brand name for muscle relaxing and anti wrinkle injections derived from Botulinum Toxin.

The discomfort is minimal and is mostly described by patients as a “tiny scratch” as the needle goes in followed by slight pressure under the skin. Skin-numbing cream is applied prior to the treatment.
You may notice some soreness in the injection site directly after the treatment, but this should subside quickly.

The treatment will involve a doctor making a series of small injections into the muscles of your face. The injection process itself will only take several minutes. Our choice of Botulinum toxin of choice is Botox®.

Botulinum toxin has been in medical use for over four decades, and it is administered in such a way that it only affects your muscles and sweat glands – it does not reach any other part of the body. As long as it is administered by a qualified medical professional, the risks are extremely minimal.

Anti-wrinkle injections are most effective when used to reduce the signs of ageing in the following places:
· Forehead/brow
· Between the eyes
· Sides of the eyes

You can carry on with your day as normal, although we advise that you avoid strenuous activity/saunas/other facial treatments for up to 24 hours.

After 4-10 days you will notice an improvement in your lines/wrinkles, and this result will last approximately 3-4 months, although this is highly individual and will vary from patient to patient.

Not at all, there are various options. Dermal fillers, laser treatment, micro-needling and/or facial peels may offer possible alternatives for you, depending on the results you wish to achieve.

Most side effects are short-lived and mild, the most common being mild bruising to the site of the injection. Some patients also report mild headaches shortly after the treatment, but these usually subside within 24 hours.

You should not have this treatment if:
· The injection site is infected
· You are allergic to any of the ingredients
· You are pregnant or breastfeeding
· You have a neuromuscular disorder (e.g. myasthenia gravis).

Any injectable procedure will only be undertaken after your face to face consultation with one of our medical practitioners, during which a full assessment will be carried out and a full list of cautions and contraindications discussed.

Do not consume any alcohol or pain medication immediately after the anti-wrinkle procedure, and avoid air travel for 48 hours. We do not recommend undergoing any electrical rejuvenation treatments in the week following your Botox treatment.

It is important to note that anti-wrinkle injections do not immediately improve static lines or lines that are present at rest. These can be treated by adding volume with dermal fillers or through skin resurfacing.

The duration of effectiveness is dependent on the dose administered and can last up to 6 months, but generally, on the first few sessions, the longevity is usually shorter – around 3 months.

Studies have shown that anti-wrinkle injections are more effective and last longer when given at regular intervals of 3-4 months due to progressive weakening of the muscles treated.

If, at any time, you decide to cease treatment, your muscles will return to normal. Wrinkling returns to its previous state and does not become worse.

Over time, Botox is broken down by the body into harmless amino acids, which are excreted by the kidneys as waste.
