Your aesthetician will first perform a thorough analysis and cleanse of your skin first. A chemical solution is applied to the skin for up to 10 minutes. Once this is removed and neutralised, a mask is sometimes applied, followed by your finishing products and SPF.
Skin peels can be combined with all of our treatments for better results. For example, if you wish to improve your acne scarring, a combination of micro needling and skin peels work excellently together to smooth the skin’s surface and reduce hyperpigmentation. These treatments would be carried out separately, with 2-4 weeks in between appointments.
The sensation of a skin peel can vary, depending on the type and strength of the peel we are working with. Most skin peels are very comfortable, and if any discomfort is experienced, we can provide fans for clients to keep cool.
Common risks can include prolonged redness, skin flaking/peeling and dryness after a treatment. These symptoms tend to disappear after a few days. During this stage, hyperpigmentation can look darker for a temporary amount of time.
If you are intending to improve a specific concern, then a course of treatment is usually required to achieve the best result. The number of sessions will be decided upon your initial consultation.
The downtime following a skin peel treatment can vary from peel to peel. If you have a chemical resurfacing treatment, downtime will last no longer than 3 days, and you will most likely not experience any skin peeling.
A chemical peel treatment is stronger, and therefore it is common to expect more skin peeling. You may experience redness and sensitivity during this time, the skin will feel quite dry and tight and peeling can last anywhere between 4-7 days.
