Minor Surgeries

Minor surgeries

in Birmingham

Wondering what minor surgeries are? Well, they are surgical procedures that are minimally invasive, involving only the skin or some specific connective tissues.

Moreover, while being certainly capable of eliminating some annoying health problems, they are performed under local anaesthesia and usually have minimal complications.

Our experienced doctors know well how to perform an extensive range of minor surgeries properly, so be sure to meet them in the comfort of our private clinic.

Understanding the Minor Surgeries

Moles: Most moles are commonly benign melanocytic naevus(not cancerous). They may be raised or flat and hairy or non-hairy. The doctor will arrange a mole assessment with a Dermoscopy (upto 3 moles is £150, 3-8 moles is £200, 8-15 is £280) to rule out a melanoma.

The Doctors at Edgbaston Clinic offer the following treatments for moles:

Mole Excision: surgical procedure to remove mole. Starts from £450. This is commonly used if the lesion is greater than 8 mm and the surgeon must cut down to the fat below the lesion to fully remove this.

Laser mole removal: using CO2 laser to target break down pigment. It is suitable for smaller lesions particularly on the face.£300 for the first lesion and £95 for additional lesions.

Shave excision:  The mole is shaved off at the skin level. It is used for raised moles that dont extend deep into the skin. £350

How do you know which treatment to choose?

The treatment often depends on the site, size of the lesion.
Shave excision is often suitable for raised moles, while laser removal might work best on small, flat moles.
Full surgical excision is usually preferred for larger moles.Surgical excision requires more recovery time.
Laser removal has minimal downtime and is suited for small, flat, benign moles, particularly for cosmetic reasons.

The laser treatments may have a minimally depressed scar as seen in the image. surgical excision will have a thin scar depending on the
We recommend products that help reduce scar formation after treatment.

Initial Consultation: you may be able to send a digital image to discuss your concerns. Mole check and face to face consultations and surgical treatments may be done on the same day (particularly suitable for clients traveling from afar. Please indicate if you would like to have a session for consultation or consultation and treatment (a deposit will be required for surgery).

Our surgeons expertly remove cysts, ensuring minimal scarring and discomfort. A surgical procedure to remove cyst, starts from £560.

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MINOR Surgical procedures

You may have other questions about the procedure that may not have been answered yet. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions regarding minor surgeries.

When to consult for a minor surgery?

Whenever you think you are having some troublesome concerns, make sure to book an appointment.

What is the risk of recurrence after a minor surgery?

There is a very small risk that the lesion may return after treatment. This can occur with any lesion but is most common with epidermal or sebaceous cysts, warts, skin tags and lipomas. This will be discussed during your consultation.

Will a few minutes to an hour be enough for a minor surgery?

Yes, generally this time is enough for minor surgery. If there are any changes, you will be informed accordingly.

Will it require hospitalisation?

No, one of the biggest advantages of minor surgery is that it does not require hospitalisation.

When to follow up after a minor surgical procedure?

Normally your doctor will give you an appointment to follow up and guide you on when to consult again. If you notice anything unusual, make sure to make an appointment and follow up as soon as possible.

What are the chances of scars after a minor surgery?

Generally, the larger a lesion is, the harder it is to remove. There may be a scar once the wound has healed; the degree of scarring depends on your age, where the lesion is and what surgery technique was used. All lesions on the face are treated very carefully to keep scarring to a minimum. Besides, there are ways to reduce scarring.

Is one session enough?

Mostly one session is enough, but if there are any changes or requirements for more sessions, you will be informed beforehand.

What medications are required?

Generally, minor procedures do not require medications. If needed, painkillers are enough.

Set-Up Of A Minor Surgical Procedure

Trust Edgbaston Wellness for minor surgery. Our expert doctors offer personalized consultations and comprehensive care in a CQC-registered facility. With a patient-centric approach and state-of-the-art equipment, we ensure your health and safety are prioritized from start to finish

Initial consultation

In the initial consultation, our doctors understand the medical history, symptoms, and concerns thoroughly. A detailed discussion to assess the necessity and suitability of minor surgical procedures. The doctors perform a physical examination and, if required, recommend diagnostic tests to accurately diagnose the condition.

There is a charge for the consultation and is charged before you attend the clinic.

Informed consent

During the informed consent process, the doctors ensure that patients fully understand the nature of the minor surgery, including the purpose, benefits, risks, and potential complications and alternative options. Consent forms are provided to formalize the patient's agreement, ensuring they are entirely comfortable with proceeding.

Procedure

During the minor surgical procedure, the experienced medical team prioritizes patient safety and comfort. In a CQC-registered setting, they follow stringent protocols for hygiene and sterility. The doctors use advanced techniques and equipment to ensure precision and minimize discomfort. Local anesthesia is used in most cases to prevent pain. The team provides constant support and reassurance throughout the procedure, carefully monitoring the patient's well-being.

Discharge and aftercare

Our doctors provide detailed aftercare instructions tailored to each patient's specific needs. This may include guidelines on wound care, activity restrictions, pain management, and follow-up appointments. The clinic ensures patients receive ongoing support, including access to medical advice for any concerns that may arise during recovery. The medical team prioritizes follow-up assessments to monitor healing and ensure the best possible outcome.

Preparation for the Minor surgery

Your surgeon may ask you to consider the following details prior to your surgery.

STOP TAKING CERTAIN MEDICATIONS

Let us know of any medications or supplements you're taking, including any blood-thinning medications. Some supplements may affect your chances of bleeding after surgery, so make sure your surgeon knows about those, too. Continue taking any prescription medications as instructed unless your surgeon tells you otherwise.

get ready for anaesthesia

In a minor surgery, anaesthesia is an essential part of choice depending on the procedure. Local anaesthesia is given via injection to the site or allowed to absorb into the skin. Sometimes for a minor surgical procedure, a large area has to be numbed - for such exemptions, a different kind of anaesthesia may be used.

Wear easy and comfortable clothing

Wear comfortable, casual clothes. Dress in layers, so you can easily adapt to the temperature of the room if the room is warm or cold.

Expect some waiting time

Bring something to help pass the time during your visit. Plan properly by bringing a book, magazine, or other activity to help you pass the time.

Complications of a Minor Surgery

Pain is a well-known complaint after any surgical procedure, although easily overcome

Side effects from anaesthesia, depending on the type of anaesthesia used

Infection might be possible after the surgery. Early recognition of infection can prevent any long-term complications or potential harm.

Minor bleeding is not uncommon and is often  reduced by pressure. This is a minor issue and the wound may take up extra days to heal.

I have been visiting Edgbaston Wellness clinic for a few months now and I can honestly say it has so far been a very positive experience. The team are so friendly and welcoming, you are always greeted with big warm smiles. I initially had my consultation with Dr P, who was lovely and very knowledgeable. She explained the whole procedure to me before treatments commenced. I also cannot speak highly enough of Jo who has been communicating through out the process. She always makes me feel at ease, from the very start she has walked me through the process of the whole procedure, answers all my questions and tells me what the benefits are. I would highly recommend coming to Edgbaston Wellness Clinic, it is a spotless and pristine clinic and not only that, you will be well looked after by all the professional, friendly and welcoming staff from the moment you walk through the door.
