BLADDER PROBLEMS

Edgbaston Wellness Urology Treatments

Bladder problems are very common in all people, no matter what decade of life they fall in. Most of such issues begin with abdominal pain, mainly in the sub-inguinal region (hypogastrium). This is followed by disruption in the normal process of urination.

Patients experience pain while urinating or face significant fluctuations in the urinary output. This can include a constant urge to pass urine or urinary leakage (such as in case of incontinence) to production of no urine at all (anuria).

Other abnormalities in the urinary process can be manifested as:

Blood in urine

Foul smelling urine

Dark-coloured urine

Increased turbidity in urine

Bladder problems can also cause non-specific symptoms such as fever, fatigue, anemia and weight loss.

Treatments for Bladder Problems

Urine Analysis

We provide complete urine analysis to test for the presence of unusual substances in urine such as RBC's, casts, microorganisms (including parasites and bacteria), an increased level of lymphocytes (indicating inflammation), an altered level of urinary pH and so on. Our main aim is to detect the abnormality at its earliest and provide prompt and effective treatments to ensure such problems never roll in again.

Radiological Assays

Our cutting-edge facility carries all the potential to provide fast and efficient radiological services such as Ultrasound, X-ray, MRI and CT Scan. Radiological assays hold key importance in detecting various urinary pathologies such as stones, polyps, cysts and tumours etc. Our experts/doctors provide excellent consultations and make sure these pathologies are wiped out before they gather any magnitude.

Cystoscopy

At our clinic, we have the latest endoscopy tubes to offer both Flexible and Rigid Cystoscopy. Both procedures share a common principle: an endoscopic tube is inserted by way of the urethra into the bladder to have a view of its inside lining. Various pathologies are then detected and biopsies are taken if necessary. This procedure also helps to remove small polyps and cysts there and then through the use of specially designed instruments. Also, we provide complete support and guidance on aftercare following such a procedure.

Treatments for Incontinence

Tension Free Vaginal Tape Trans-Obturator Route

For women who suffer from a dripping bladder, we offer various treatments such as TVT-O (tension free vaginal tape trans-obturator route). It is an invasive procedure in which a polypropylene tape is inserted into the vagina and taken out through small incisions in the inner thigh. The tape provides necessary mechanical support to the urethra and helps correct urinary incontinence (stress incontinence).

Male Slings

We also include male sling procedure in spectrum for treatments of urinary incontinence. This procedure is a lot similar to TVT-O. Our experts insert a sling that supports the urethra and relieves incontinence. The procedure is short, highly safe and effective.

Artificial Urinary Sphincters

People who have an extremely leaky bladder, especially the elderly, our clinic provides artificial urinary sphincter devices that function much like the natural one and provide a quick and lasting solution to your incontinence.

All you need to know about Urology Treatments

You may have other questions regarding the urology treatments that may not have been answered yet. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions.

What do urologists do?

Urologists are experts of the urinary tract and its associated structures. They specialize in treating all the problems related to your urinary output which include problems coupled with your bladder, ureters, kidneys and UTI's. Also, testes and prostate issues are dealt by a urologist.

Why would I need to go to a Urologist?

If you are having the following urinary problems, you might want to see a urologist immediately:

• Difficulty urinating
• Pain when voiding urine
• Severe fluctuations in urinary output
• Burning sensation on urination
• Blood or pus in urine
• A constant pain in the sub-inguinal region
• Chronic back pain
• Erectile dysfunction

Do Urologist deal with problems related to urine only?

It is very natural for people to assume that a urologist deals with problems related to urine only. However, what most people often do not know is that you can also see a urologist if you are having troubles with your testes (such as an infection or swelling) or scrotum (such as sebaceous cysts). Also, if it’s difficult for you to attain or sustain an erection, you can consult a urologist. He will likely examine you for any structural or pathological defects and suggest treatments to reverse your condition.

Can I go straight to a Urologist?

If your general physician fails to find a solution to your problems, he’ll refer you to a urologist. However, it is a common practice to directly approach a urologist for any kind of issue with the bladder, kidneys, urethra, testes or scrotum.

What does a Urologist do on the first visit?

On your first visit to a urologist, you should expect a complete medical history and detailed physical examination. Your doctor can also run certain diagnostic tests such as complete urine analysis, radiological examinations such as an ultrasound (and later an MRI or CT if necessary), endoscopic procedures and other similar interventions to establish a clear diagnosis. They can later call you up for subsequent investigations, such as getting biopsies for detailed analysis.

Can my urinary problems be reversed?

Yes, there is a range of treatments for various urinary pathologies. All treatments offer complete recovery or improvement in symptoms, if done timely and by experts. When invasive procedures and surgeries are involved, you get a complete post-operative care plan and support in terms of any unlikely complications.

Kidney Problems

Kidneys, the plumbers of our body, are extremely crucial to homeostasis. They remove all the wastes that our bodies generate and sweep off the unwanted substances. Any malfunction is therefore alarming as it can lead to a build up of wastes and cause significant fluctuations in your urinary output.

Signs to look for if you have a kidney disease are:

A fluctuating urinary frequency

Pain while passing urine

Blood in urine

Puffing of face, especially around eyes (orbital oedema)

Malaise

Shortness of breath

These symptoms are instituted by problems such as:

Inflammation in the kidneys (nephritis)

Kidney stones (urate, oxalate etc.)

Polycystic Kidney Disease

Renal disease secondary to diabetes and hypertension

Our clinic drives in all kinds of treatment services for kidney diseases, including:

A thorough urine analysis

Blood substances test

Radiological assays such as MRI, CT Scan, Ultrasound examination

Renography & renal biopsies

Prostate Problems

Prostate is a not so big gland that embodies the urethra, just below the bladder. Its function however, is crucial to ejaculation and fertility. It produces prostatic fluid that adds to the bulk of semen. Not only this, the prostatic fluid also supports the sperms nutritionally.

Hence, prostate becomes the centre of attention. But with all the recognition, it has to face some serious problems too. Almost invariably, it becomes enlarged over time (especially in people over 40) called as benign prostatic hyperplasia. This condition obstructs the bladder and creates significant difficulties with the urination process. Moreover, like all other organs of the body, it is susceptible to a cancer as well.

Some non-specific symptoms that can appear due to issues in the prostate are:

Anemia & tiredness

Weight loss

Shivering

Bone pain

Good thing, our experts have all the potential to detect and correct your prostate problems before they grow enough to be seriously problematic. Our modern-edge technologies can provide effective treatments to all your prostate inconveniences. So, book your appointments right away!

Testes Problems

We all know how important testes are. You can’t expect to impregnate a woman if your testes are not in order. We see that problems associated with testes, such as inflammation (orchitis) or viral induced infections, are leading causes male infertility. First signs to appear in this regard are pain in testes along with swelling that can be both benign (non-cancerous) and malignant (cancerous).

Other common concerns tied to testes and scrotum include:

Developmental anomalies such as absent or undescended testes

Bacterial or viral infection of the testes

Fluid accumulation around testes (hydrocele)

Accumulation of blood (haematocele)

Prominent and tortuous veins of the spermatic cord (varicocele)

Pyocele (collection of pus around testes)

Twisting of the testicular ducts called testicular torsion

Traumatic injury to testes

Fortunately, at our clinic, you’ll get everything you need to reverse such inconveniences. We offer the best diagnostic procedures, such as ultrasound examination of testes, to hit upon any problem associated with testes and scrotum. We also provide prompt and lasting solutions with a complete aftercare guide. Also, our experts are always available of any kind of professional consultations and opinions.

Very friendly staff with a wide range and treatments, and the knowledge of how to apply those treatments. Very relaxed atmosphere, where you can discuss (without pressure) what you would like to enhance, about the way you look. They've altered my life and how I feel about myself in a very short time. I had no idea that I could alter (without surgery) my physical shape. This seemed to happen almost magically while we were chatting through the totally painless procedure. I'm very happy that I found you guys at Medispa, many thanks

I have been visiting EF Medispa, Edgbaston for a few months now and I can honestly say it has so far been a very positive experience. The team are so friendly and welcoming, you are always greeted with big warm smiles. I initially had my consultation with Sarah, who was lovely and very knowledgeable. She explained the whole procedure to me before treatments commenced. I also cannot speak highly enough of Kelly who has been carrying out my treatments. She always makes me feel at ease, from the very start she has walked me through the process of the whole procedure, answers all my questions and tells me what the benefits are. I would highly recommend coming to EF Medispa, Edgbaston, it is a spotless and pristine clinic and not only that, you will be well looked after by all the professional, friendly and welcoming staff from the moment you walk through the door.
